Fantastic chalet holiday - one of the best yet!

Reviewed January 5, 2012 for a stay in January 2012

We stayed here over New Year, as a group of eleven friends – and we all loved it! Liza, the owner, was very helpful from the time of booking, accommodating last minute changes and keeping us up to date with special offers on ski hire. The chalet hosts, Peter and Vera, were fantastic and the food they prepared was perfect to keep a hungry party happy (as was the included wine each evening)! Vera’s afternoon cakes were legendary, and Peter ferried us to and from the slopes in the private minibus, which was handy and convenient. The chalet is extremely cosy and full of character, with rooms of different sizes and styles, and the top floor, with its big comfy sofas and large dining table, has the most incredible views. You can sit on the sofa with a cup of tea and look all the way down the valley, it really is quite special. The non-skiers in our party kept themselves busy with the DVD library and the mountains of books. The village is rural and unspoilt in the best possible way – you can even hear the cows and pigs in the morning – it wouldn’t suit someone looking for pumping après-ski but it’s an ideal springboard to access the vast ski areas of both La Plagne and Les Arcs (you are literally between the two and the main ski pass covers both resorts) without having to stay in an ugly, purpose-built resort. We loved it – and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to a family or group of friends who want to ski, eat and relax!

Fantastic food and hospitality, beautiful Chalet, great hosts. What more could you want?

Our first ski holiday with Mountains Inc but definitely not our last. 30 plus ski holidays and this has been one the best. Our stay at La Portette was truly enjoyable from the very start, even our ski hire came to the chalet on our first evening for fittings. No wasting time on the first morning waiting around in crowded ski rental shops and then struggling back with equipment, just relaxed friendly personal service, I was even sipping a beer while I had my boots fitted. It doesn’t get any more relaxed than that. The chalet was stunning and we spent many an afternoon relaxing on the balcony taking in the breathtaking views and sipping a cool beverage before a sumptuous meal and more than a few bottles of wine. The chalet team were all quietly efficient and nothing was too much trouble for them. I can’t wait to go back next year.

Too much good food…
Too much alcohol…
Too much good weather…
Too much of a good time…
How on earth can I face going home?!!

Another wonderful holiday in the house of books! Food to die for every night (+ tea time!) + a superb selection of music from the ‘house DJ’. We’ll be back!

Sally (practising chalet maid – only cos the view from the sink can’t be beat)

Back for the 3rd time in a year – guess that says it all – “simply the best” as Tina might say!’
